For decades I have shared stories with friends and family about my years as a funeral director. The most common response was, you could write a book.
I have finally completed my memoirs entitled "Dead Serious; my life as a Funeral Director."
It's filled with stories to make the reader experience a vast array of emotions. Some sad, some funny, and some quite frankly people might not believe, but I am dead serious.
I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I have enjoyed the 30-year journey.

J. Kevin Watts is a licensed funeral director and
embalmer in Florida, Alabama and previously
Massachusetts with over 30 years of experience.

Funeral director is a profession one rarely thinks about and it’s even rarer that someone wants to do it. Mr Watts’ take on his job beautifully describes the human element of death, the good, bad and ugly.

Fantastic! I couldn’t put it down. He does a great job at telling stories and shining a much needed light on the profession I think people are most curious about. Be prepared laugh, cringe, tear up, and gasp a few times. Looking forward to more from Kevin!

I highly recommend this book. It touches the full spectrum of emotions - love, anger, fear, confusion, panic, sadness, depression, etc. It even has a little unsolved mystery in one chapter.

I read the entire book last night in 3 hours. Once I started reading it I couldn’t put it down! It was the first book I have actually read from cover to cover in years. It was great! Great job sir!

I really enjoyed this book and couldn't put it down once I started it! Mr. Watts details both the daily and more unusual aspects of his occupation. I found myself laughing out loud at some stories, and getting misty-eyed at others. I highly.recommend this book to anyone that has ever wondered what a funeral director's job is really like.

This book is both fascinating and humorous! Made me think differently about the role of the funeral director/ embalmer. Questions that I often wondered about were answered. Please write a sequel!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this book!!!!! It is a "morbidly" funny book. Its not all comedy of course, but this guy knows how to write a book! I have always wanted to be a funeral director or work in a funeral home doing something. It was a lifetime passion of mine that just didn't happen. Anyway, the stories and everything this man did during his career, are so interesting, you can just picture/imagine everything like you were right there with him. I would highly, highly recommend this book to those who love this line of work. This guy is someone I would want doing my funeral, put it that way. Very, overly considerate, etc. The things he has done for the families of the deceased are things that if I had ever been able to do this job, is exactly how I would be done things too. I would love to actually sit down with this guy and talk for hours about his life, because the book leaves you wanting more and more.

What a great read! Really paints a picture of the unknown world of being a funeral director. If you have ever wondered what this job profession is like or “how do people do that?!” This is definitely the book for you.

I enjoyed the book so much. I read it in one sitting. It was interesting, funny, made me squeamish and brought me to tears in some parts. It was very interesting to hear how it is behind the scenes. Everyone has a job to do and Kevin brought insight to that job that has a certain persona that changed my whole perspective of a funeral directors job. I now have the upmost respect for you Kevin and your colleagues.

I am so glad that Kevin demonstrated to us readers the lighter side of being a funeral director. I have known Kevin for years and I know at work or in his leisure he always tries to lighten the load we carry. A perfect people pleaser.
